Pinhole Photography

Pinhole photography is perhaps the oldest type of photography. We have a device, a box, if you like, to hold the film somehow and a pinhole and usually a manual device, like a lens cap to use as a shutter. The images that can be produced are more in the line of the "pictorialists" than the the f64 Group.

These images can be made of paper or film and produce very impressionistic images.

See what you think....

The Modified PTG

(Photo Technical Group)

The following 6 pictures were made with the modified PTG camera..... it has a filter slot, a wider opening back to accept the Calumet roll film backs and an extension on the "open/close" knob.

The Custom Made 5x7 Pinhole

The Custom Made 8" 4x5 Pinhole

I like the Custom made 5x7 so much I had Ken Johnson of the Wood Shop make me an 8" focal length 4x5 using an old Crown Graphic back I have had for 30 years...... it has arrived.... and it is very fine. Most pinholes are usually wide angle..... always wondered why..... of course, there's the difficulty in pointing the thing and getting what you want or what you think you will get.... well.... we just did it.... focal length of 7 7/8" with a .0181" pinhole yielding an f stop of 435.

Here are the first shots of it and with it.

Kitchen Counter ... overcast day.... Arista ASA 400 4x5 film shot at ASA 800 and developed in Ilford DDX... tray... for 10 minutes @ 70 deg F
